Name: Beyond Birthday
Canon: Death Note: Another Note: The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases (AKA: "Another Note")
Canon Point: Post Death/CRAU
Age: 21
Background: Here. For his CRAU He hasn't done too much wherein it would change him, he's met a few people from a basketball team, he's also met Mello face to face and has no knowledge of Near at this point. He knows someone living in the last place he was in (Prismatica) seemed a little too interesting. Beyond wasn't sure how to approach the possibility of it being either L trying to change his personality a little, or someone else that Mello didn't tell him about/didn't realize was there yet either. Or, alternately, investigating still himself.
Personality:
As with most Death Note characters, Beyond has little in his childhood that we know much about. We know that, most likely under the guidance of Roger, as with the other successors failed or otherwise, he grew up in the program at Wammy's. L himself would have been somewhere near his 20's, well on his way in his career and Beyond likely idolized L in a fanatical way that only someone encouraged to stylizes their entire life toward "being L" could. As a young man, Beyond was much like he is today: Wide-eyed, curious, but he was much less lethal than he turned out to be, just as normal as any other traumatized child.
The trauma may not have inflicted itself upon a young age, but we can clearly see that Beyond Birthday has problems with possessiveness and abandonment issues. These problems are present within a lot of children who are abandoned to a system; be it their parents dying, or be it being given up. On top of this, the man known as Beyond Birthday was given the extraordinary power to see people's lives slip away before his very eyes beside the names above their heads. You've got your recipe for disaster once he comes to the realization that "L" isn't all what he believed it to be.
Beyond becomes something more, something less as it were, than human aside his natural born ability that anyone unlucky enough to make a deal with a Shinigami would have to pay half their life for. He becomes angry, obsessed by some sort of betrayal that was linked most likely with the death of the failed successor "A". A, who's name we're never told, and B (Beyond Birthday) were the two candidates that, like Near and Mello, would have succeeded L in the likeliness that he were to die. Beyond was forced to watch as A studied himself into a turmoil to succeed L which, eventually, lead to A committing suicide. He never did say whether A's suicide, or another event, was what lead to him becoming psychotic. The last straw could very well have been the only person he ever knew to know the pain of being stressed into successorship, as an impressionable child, died. I strongly believe it was, but, no one knew. In fact, if I might take a moment of irony to say that the author of the book was Mello, someone that Beyond might have very well identified easily with all things considered. He wrote it to flaunt the information over Near, but at the same time we can't deny that the two of them went to extreme measures.
Those extreme measures for Beyond Birthday were things that delved his mind into a maniacal curiosity for the human body; for how it worked, for why and how its life dripped away second by second, moment by moment. It didn’t matter what action, how holy, or how lowly they were in life. They still, all, died. This fuelled him and drove him after he left Wammy's following A's death. This was every reason why Beyond became something even better in his mind than L could ever be or would ever be. He would become the world's greatest Criminal, the Anti-L, the one thing that L would never be able to figure out. It didn’t matter how devious or twisted any others before him had woven their crimes.
Beyond takes great pride in his acting skills, he takes great pride in a lot of things and pride, envy and self-loathing are all things that he battles with even through the book that we're given. He takes on L's personality as best he can mimic it and has to practice laughing simply because it can be inferred he has never had cause to laugh pleasantly. A Shinigami's laugh, if I remember correctly, is how it is described. There is something deep, foreboding, and dangerous that lies even within the smallest endeavour that we ourselves take for granted. Our most happiest action, laughing without threat, is hard for him to do on account of all the corruption that wracks his mind.
The instability of Beyond Birthday's mind and actions are insurmountable by any measurement. All while he puts a freakishly pleasant smile on his face, he could be plotting the most diabolical death one could incur. While he looks as though he might do the most indescribable violation to life, he may simply be pondering. Far away looks aren't an odd thing to see on his face, many of them mimicry of what he believed L to do and what leads us to believe that he had direct contact in some way, shape or form much like Mello had in order to learn about the LABB Crimes.
Above all things that have manifested over his years to stew and become a menace to all virtues in a man. The worst of Beyond Birthday is his arrogance, having it tested infuriates him and, furthermore, having it overturned causes him great anger. He is all the worst things that L could have been and truly is the work of a devil, he himself sates that he is always one step above L. "If L is a genius, B is an extreme genius" and so forth. He's a force to be reckoned with and even L would be wary of incurring his full wrath turned against him.
Powers:
Non-Supernatural
Almost incomparable, natural intelligence. His capability of learning is almost bar none as is standard for people chosen for the program, failed or not. This includes learning languages, multiple-topics where core systems and topics are involved, interpretations, improvisation, thinking outside the box on the fly and in somewhat adherent fashion, the ability to memorize things instantly without mnemonic intervention. Things along those line and very much like every other successor are just some of the things in his toolbelt.
Supernatural
Beyond was born with the ability of "Shinigami Eyes". This is a power that can only be obtained, normally, through a contract with a Shinigami themselves. He can see the names and death dates of the people he sees the unobscured face of. I include large facial trauma as it is still the depiction of the person in front of him. There are permission forms put up that people will be able to participate on so that other players are aware of limitations and what exactly this all entails.
